Most pests found in the home are “just passing through” as most of them cannot survive in the home but are still drawn in through crevices and open doors by light and the prospect of shelter. When they do stick around it can be nothing short of a nightmare. Flies buzzing in the kitchen just barely missing that fly strip above the sink, spiders creeping around the table, Ick! I can’t even think about it without my skin crawling. Lawngevity keeps those creepy crawlies away so you don’t have to worry about these pests just walking around your home during the warmer months. Some of the nastier and more common bugs and spiders you can happen upon around the home include:

  • Brown Recluse Spiders
  • Black Widows
  • Wolf Spiders
  • Centipedes
  • Earwigs
  • Box Elder Bugs

As far as how these little creatures can affect your lawn, most of them are all part of the healthy ecosystem that is your yard. Unfortunately, a healthy yard is exactly where the destructive bugs want to be. When you start to notice brown splotches in an otherwise healthy green yard, it could be due to a sprinkler not quite reaching the area and it could also be due to some common pests.

Grubs or beetle larvae are one. Among the most damaging of all lawn pests, white grubs are the larvae of a wide variety of scarab beetles, including masked chafers and Japanese beetles. In the spring, summer, and early fall, these plump, C-shaped larvae feast on lawn grass roots just below the soil surface.

Preventative measures can be taken to keep your lawn from getting infested and damaged. Being proactive is the best thing to do, however, there are also curative methods that can be used should you already have a bug problem. Some useful products to keep your lawn free of these destructive bugs include:
